Passengers Safe After Jet's Landing Gear Catches Fire At O'Hare

CHICAGO (STMW) -- All 231 passengers aboard an American Airlines flight arriving from Paris were evacuated via an emergency slide after a landing gear caught fire Friday afternoon at O'Hare International Airport.

 

At 2:04 p.m. an EMS Plan I and a still and box alarm were called for a plane after its right landing gear caught fire, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis said.  

 

Eight people of the 231 aboard were checked out on the scene but signed refusals and were not taken to hospitals. A few others were being looked at for "bumps and bruises,'' fire officials said.

 

The American Airlines jet was arriving from Paris, according to the FAA. The plane landed safely, and the passengers were evacuated using an emergency slide, Curtis said.

 

The EMS plan and alarm were canceled at 2:28 p.m.
