Passenger Van Strikes Jogger In Gurnee
GURNEE, Ill. (STMW) -- A passenger van struck a jogger Monday morning in north suburban Gurnee.
The 18-year-old woman was jogging about 8:39 a.m. at Gages Lake Road and Muirfield Drive when she was struck, Gurnee Fire Battalion Chief John Skillman said.
Gurnee police said the victim was running when she crossed Gages Lake Road from southbound Muirfield and was struck by a commercial passenger van that was eastbound on Gages Lake Road.
After striking the pedestrian, the van swerved to the left and came to a stop, a statement from police said.
The victim, identified by police as Deanna Fedash of Gurnee, suffered abdominal and chest injuries, road rash and skin lacerations, Skillman said. Police said she also suffered back, neck and head injuries.
Though seriously injured, she was conscious and alert when taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Skillman said. She is expected to recover, police said.
The van, owned by Knowledge Learning Corp. & Kindercare of Gurnee, was driven by Aaron Gallego, 31, of Round Lake Park, police said. A urine sample was taken, but police said there is no suspicion of impaired driving and no citations had been issued as of late Monday morning.
Anyone with information should call police at (847) 599-7000.
