As Newsradio 780 Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports, Illinois House Republican Leader Tom Cross says GOP candidates are in some very competitive races. Cross says his party is cautiously optimistic that it can take control of several seats held by Democrats, perhaps even enough to give Republicans the majority.
Winning 12 of those races would give the Illinois GOP the majority. However, Democrats believe they will continue to hold their majority.
Deputy House Majority Leader Lou Lang says there are up to a dozen tight races this year, and he expects "Democrats will prevail in most of them.''
Cross says voters are angry and frustrated with state government, and they seem to identify the Democrats in general and House Speaker Michael Madigan in particular, as being at fault.
Cross says Republican voters seem more enthusiastic than the Democrats this fall, and the reports of early voting seem favorable.
