Parts Of NW Indiana Could Get A Foot Of Lake Effect Snow
(CBS) -- Roads could be a mess much of the day in parts of northwest Indiana on the eve of Thanksgiving, as lake effect snow could bring up to a foot of snow to some of the region.
The National Weather Service has issued a lake effect snow advisory for Porter County until 3 p.m. Central Time. Snow accumulations could total 2 to 4 inches, and wind gusts could be as strong as 30 mph. There is also a lake effect snow advisory for Pulaski County, which could see 2 to 5 inches.
A lake effect snow warning also has been issued for La Porte and Starke counties until midnight, with accumulations of 6 to 12 inches, due to blowing and drifting snow.
Visibility could be reduced to one quarter mile or less, due to heavy snow and wind. In some cases, there could be zero visibility, and forecasters are warning of icy and snowy conditions on the roads through Wednesday evening.
Holiday travelers should plan on hazardous driving conditions through Wednesday evening.
Conditions could be especially bad on the Indiana Toll Road and Highway 30.
