Partially Buried Body Found In Wooded Area

CHICAGO (STMW) - A man walking in a wooded area found a decomposed body Friday afternoon in the East Chicago neighborhood.

A man in the 2500 block of East 116th Street smelled a bad odor and went to locate the source about 3:30 p.m. and found a body, police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien said.

Sources said the body was covered by branches in a wooded area. The man saw gym shoes sticking out and left the area to call police, who discovered the decomposed body.

The unidentified man, believed to be in his 40s, was pronounced dead on the scene at 6 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.

Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
