Elderly Berwyn Couple Killed In I-355 Crash
WOODRIDGE, Ill. (STMW) -- An elderly Berwyn couple was killed in a crash on I-355 Saturday afternoon near west suburban Woodridge.
About 3 p.m., a silver Toyota Tundra pick-up truck hit the driver's side of a red Ford Taurus that was facing westbound in the northbound lanes of the Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355) near Boughton Road, state police said, citing preliminary information.
The driver of the Taurus, 87-year-old Daniel J. Simone, and his wife, Dimple Simone, 91, were killed in the crash, authorities said. They were pronounced dead at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital in Bolingbrook, the Will County coroner's office said.
The driver of the Tundra was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.
Two northbound lanes of the tollway were closed for a few hours following the crash, but reopened by 7 p.m., state police said.
Illinois State Police District 15 is investigating the crash.
