Parking Meter Receipts Are Reusable
CHICAGO (CBS) -- If you park on city streets, you might not realize that the receipts you place on your dashboard are reusable.
But there are restrictions.
Presuming that the time has not expired, you can take the same parking meter receipt with you and use it in an area with the same or lower parking rates.
Parking rates are highest in the Loop, at $5 per hour. In the Central Business District outside of downtown, parking rates at $3 an hour. In the outlying neighborhoods, the rate is $1.50 per hour.
Thus, parking tickets from outlying neighborhoods may not be used anywhere else. But parking tickets from the Loop are good anywhere.
The Central Business District is bounded roughly by North Avenue, Roosevelt Road, Halsted Street and Lake Michigan. Within that space, the Loop is defined by Lake Michigan to the east, Wacker Drive to the north and west, and Congress Parkway to the south.
