Parking Meter Enforcement Resumes Next Week
CHICAGO (CBS) -- City officials said Saturday that they plan to resume parking meter enforcement in two stages, beginning Monday.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Bob Roberts reports, the city has not been enforcing payment of parking meters since the blizzard on Tuesday and Wednesday.

At a news conference at the city's Office of Emergency Management and Communications on Saturday, officials said that parking meter holiday would continue through the weekend.
OEMC Executive Director Jose Santiago said parking meter enforcement in the Loop and Central Business District – bounded by Oak Street, Roosevelt Road, Halsted Street and Lake Michigan – would resume on Monday at 9 a.m.
Parking meter enforcement in the rest of the city will resume at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
Employees of parking concessionaire LAZ Parking began clearing paths Thursday to the payment boxes that have replaced most of the city's meters.
While the holiday has been in effect, the city has issued no tickets for meter violations, although Santiago said that other parking regulations remain in effect. OEMC has encouraged people to feed the meters anyway -- but it has only been a suggestion.
The parking meter holidays have been the first declared since Chicago Parking Meters, and LAZ as its contractor, took control of the parking meters under a $1.15 billion long-term lease in January 2009.
