Parents Say CPS Not Providing Consistent Nursing Care For Diabetic Child
(CBS) -- A frustrated dad is speaking out against Chicago Public Schools after he says his little girl hasn't been getting the medical attention she needs.
Seven-year-old Irulan Tinsley has type 1 diabetes. Her father says the girl needs a school nurse dedicated to monitoring her blood sugar levels.
The Logan Square family says they filled out all the proper paperwork to request a special full-time nurse but despite their efforts, they say Irulan's care at Goethe Elementary has been inconsistent.
"I would hope that every parent receives the same treatment if they have a child that has special needs like this, especially ones that can, not to be dramatic, but ones that can be life-threatening, that they get the care that they need and they're sure that that's going to happen," said
CBS 2 reached out to CPS, who released a statement saying, "CPS is committed to making sure all students receive the supports and services they need to be successful in the classroom. While the school has provided students with the necessary services, CPS will take the appropriate actions to make sure this school has consistent personnel."
