Parents Of Morgan Park Basketball Players Meet With Principal After Threatened Boycott

(CBS) -- Instead of a basketball game, there was a meeting at Morgan Park High School between parents and the principal following a threatened boycott.

WBBM'S Nancy Harty reports while their sons practiced in the small gym that has served as a focal point for this dispute, parents of the basketball team met with the principal. Tiffany Burrell, whose son is a junior, says the meeting was wonderful.

"Everyone got their concerns heard and we all agreed that we're going to work toward something for the children and the betterment of Morgan Park High School," she said.

The group was short on details but said they felt like they made progress in getting improvements to the 100-year-old school building beyond just the gym.

The gym seats only about 250 people, so CPS had moved Morgan Park's basketball game against another top-ranked school, Simeon, to a larger facility.

The game was postponed due to the threatened boycott and has not been rescheduled. CPS says it has spent $30 million in upgrades to the building in the last five years.
