Paramedic Delivers His Own Baby Daughter On Edens Expressway
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A paramedic from north suburban Evanston delivered his own baby daughter Friday morning, after his wife went into labor while they were driving on the Edens Expressway.
Northshore University HelathSystem spokesman Jim Anthony said baby Mary Margaret Lynch and her parents Daniel and Elizabeth were doing fine at Evanston Hospital, after Daniel delivered the baby early Friday morning on the Edens Expressway.
Illinois State Police said the couple pulled over in the northbound lanes of Interstate 94 near Touhy Avenue in Lincolnwood around 4:30 a.m. when Elizabeth went into labor.
By the time state police arrived, Daniel had delivered the baby, and the couple and their newborn were getting ready to go to the hospital.
Anthony said Mary Margaret Lynch weighed in at 8 pounds 7 ounces.
Evanston Fire Chief Greg Klaiber said it was "a crazy story," and Daniel Lynch's colleagues were glad to know that everyone is okay and the baby is healthy.
