Palos Hills Man Charged After Lincolnshire Chase In Stolen Car
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A southwest suburban man was high on drugs when he led police on a chase in a stolen vehicle Monday night in north suburban Lincolnshire, police allege.
About 9:15 p.m., an officer tried to pull over 36-year-old Peter P. Mleczko when he saw the man drive out of a parking lot in the 400 block of Milwaukee Avenue and into oncoming traffic, according to Lincolnshire police.
Mleczko instead veered into the correct lanes and ran a red light at Olde Half Day Road as he kept speeding north, police said.
He then crashed into another car while turning left onto Corporate Woods Parkway and ran away, police said. It took officers an hour and a half to find Mleczko hiding in a grassy area near the crash scene.
The Palos Hills resident was taken to a hospital along with the other driver, neither with life-threatening injuries.
Mleczko was charged with felony counts of possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated fleeing, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. He also faces a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of drugs.
Mleczko was released on parole in last December for a 2013 burglary conviction in Cook County, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections. He is being held without bond.
