Palestinians March In Loop Over Violence In Gaza
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Hundreds of Palestinian supporters marched through the Loop to express their growing anger over what they claim are unprovoked attacks by Israel on Gaza Monday night.
Protesters in Federal Plaza carried signs to protest the civilian casualties blamed on Israeli missiles.
Hatem Abueayyeah said they are calling on President Obama to withdrawal military support of Israel.
"Israel cannot perpetrate its crimes against the Palestinian people without the unequivocal support of the United States," Abueayyeah said.
Aaron Cohen of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago said that over the last dozen years, 10,000 rockets have been launched from Gaza into southern Israel.
"Israel has a right to defend itself," Cohen said. "The United States and many other countries accept that."
The battle over public opinion continues when Jewish groups hold a rally at the Thompson Center at noon Tuesday.
