She was found lying on the ground unconscious when first responders arrived at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Palatine police said. She was not breathing and had no pulse.
First responders tried CPR, but to no avail.
Alm, of the 900 block of West Carolyn Drive in Palatine, was pronounced dead at Northwest Community Healthcare in Arlington Heights at 1:38 p.m. Wednesday, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.
An autopsy on Thursday found Alm died of cervical injuries from a fall from a horse and her death was ruled an accident, the medical examiner's office said.
Although the death appears to be accidental, police are conducting a follow-up investigation and are working with the Park District and the medical examiner's office, police said.
