Pair Charged In Pregnant Teen's Death
CALUMET CITY (STMW) -- A south suburban man and woman have been charged with the slaying of a pregnant Alsip teenager, prosecutors said Thursday.
Deandre Minkens, 20, of 329 156th Place in Calumet City; and Shante Thomas, 19, of 14500 Woodlawn in Dolton, are each charged with murder, according to Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin.
They are charged with killing Rosemary Newman, who was nine months pregnant, and with the intentional homicide of her unborn daughter, Conklin said.
He would not comment on the relationship between the suspects and Newman.
The 18-year-old from Alsip didn't return home Saturday night after going out with a friend. By the time her mother reported her missing Sunday morning, her partially clothed body had already been reported found in a Cook County Forest Preserve near Calumet City.
She died by strangulation, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, which ruled her death a homicide.
