Pair Charged In North Suburban Pickpocketing Scheme
NORTHBROOK, Ill. (CBS) -- Police in the north suburbs have arrested two women for a wide-ranging pickpocket scheme, largely targeting restaurant patrons.
Northbrook Police said 43-year-old Star Davis and 22-year-old Tracy Musiala have been arrested on felony financial crimes enterprise charges.
Detectives in Northbrook and Park Ridge had been investigating an series of thefts, mostly from patrons at local restaurants.
Police said the two committed several thefts in Park Ridge in May and June, to get credit cards and other personal information, which they used to buy gift cards and electronics, then tried to sell those items.
Davis, the purported ringleader, also faces multiple counts of theft and theft by deception.
According to the Chicago Tribune, police suspect the scheme dates back as long as a year, with dozens of victims across the northern suburbs, and more charges could be coming against more suspects.
In many cases, wallets were taken out of purses or bags the victims had hung over the backs of their chairs, or left in empty seats.
