Pair Accused Of 'Terrorizing People' Walking Down West Side Streets
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A Cook County judge refused bail Sunday for a Roseland man accused of "terrorizing people that are walking down the street."
Robert E. Perdue, 21, of the 11100 block of South Perry, faces armed robbery and home invasion charges in connection with four incidents a prosecutor said took place over about 35 minutes Saturday on the West Side.
Cook County Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil denied Perdue bail. She ordered a second man, 21-year-old Terrell D. Wilkerson of the 11800 block of South Indiana, held in lieu of $500,000 while he also faces charges of armed robbery and home invasion in connection with the crime spree.
A third suspect did not appear in court Sunday. Records show their victims were mostly teenagers. One victim was 27.
Assistant State's Attorney Anastasia Harper said Perdue pulled a gun on one of the victims, and Wikerson took the person's cellphone and house keys at 5:54 p.m. Saturday in the 900 block of North Lawndale. She said the men followed the victim into her apartment, where she turned over money, but they fled when they heard a bedroom door open.
She said they next appeared in the 600 block of North Spaulding at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, where one victim was struck in the back of the head, fell and was hit by several people. She said Perdue took the victim's jacket.
Harper said Perdue and Wikerson were also standing behind the third suspect at 6:25 p.m. Saturday, when he threatened a victim in the 3000 block of West Chicago.
Finally, she said the third suspect pulled a gun on two people walking down the street at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the 900 block of North Lawndale. She said Perdue helped rummage through their pockets and take their cellphones.
The men were arrested after the gray, four-door Pontiac Grand Prix they were riding in was stopped in the 3200 block of West Chicago at 6:37 p.m. Saturday, according to police reports. The victims' cellphones were recovered.
