Paddlers To Hit Chicago River On New Year's
NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, Ill. (CBS) -- A 26-year-old New Year's Day tradition is expected to attract hundreds of people to the Chicago River's North Branch this weekend.
The group will be canoeing and kayaking on the Chicago River, starting at the Skokie Lagoons on the western edge of Winnetka and Glencoe, and finishing in Linne Woods in Morton Grove, according to the Cook County Forest Preserve District.
They will paddle past wildlife, such as deer, coyotes and birds.
Officials say the event is a unique say to see urban wilderness during the winter. The district gets help from the Paddler's Patrol of the Illinois Paddling Council and the Prairie State Canoeists.
The paddle should take between two and three hours.
