Pace To Begin Adding Arrival Times At Bus Stops
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Better late than never.
Pace soon will begin catching up with the CTA and Metra in delivering real-time arrival information to its bus stops.
Federal and RTA grants are financing signs at key suburban bus stops, beginning early next year with the Harvey and Chicago Heights transit centers.
Pace spokesman Patrick Wilmot said "hundreds" could be installed in the next couple of years, but he said Pace will provide an alternative for stops that don't have them – text messaging that will give riders the arrival times for the next three buses at any given stop. Each stop will be given a special code number, the same as CTA riders can do today.
The text option should be available by the end of the year, Wilmot said.
Pace is looking for advertising partners to help pay the cost of installing the signs. It already offers real-time arrival information on its Web and mobile sites.
