Pace Wants To Expand Call-Ride Program
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Pace is looking to expand its popular Call-n-Ride program.
WBBM's Regine Schlesinger reports, the suburban bus system's call-n-ride program is modeled after one in Denver.
Pace Looks To Expand Program
Pace's Patrick Wilmot says in six areas right now, riders can call and reserve curb-to-curb service in a mini-bus for $1.75 for each one-way trip.
"The rider calls in advance, makes a reservation directly with the driver who is trained to know the entire area like the back of his or her hand<' he said. "And then they negotiate a trip time and the rider can travel anywhere within the defined zone."
You might have to wait longer than you would for a cab, but the fare is cheaper.
Wilmot says Pace hopes to expand the program.
"We're looking forward to having more of these," he said. "They've really gotten a lot of positive feedback. It's a personal level of service that passengers seem to really appreciate - getting to know the driver and being able to call and book the trip that they want when they need to travel."
Call-n-Ride is used in areas where a fixed route service is impractical and less cost-efficient.
