Pace Expected To Expand Service Of Buses Riding On Shoulders Of I-55
(CBS) -- More buses could be riding the shoulders of I-55 next month.
The Pace board is expected at its meeting Wednesday to expand the schedule of its popular its 755/Plainfield-Medical Center-West Loop Express, effective mid-August. At the same time, it intends to split its current 855 line to and from Michigan Avenue into three routes.
Pace spokesman Patrick Wilmot said the new 850 route would stop inbound and outbound at the Canterbury Park 'n Ride in Bolingbrook. The new 851 route would serve the Old Chicago Park 'n Ride in Bolingbrook and Romeoville. The shortened 855 route would serve Plainfield and Burr Ridge.

Wilmot said ridership continues to increase on it shoulder-riding buses. The number who ride the 755 line has more than quadrupled since November 2011, when shoulder-riding began. But he said the current skip-stop 855 schedules have confused some homebound riders.
Wilmot said schedules to virtually all stops on the four routes would be faster as a result.
Pace and the Illinois Toll Highway Authority also are planning for upcoming construction along the Jane Addams Tollway. The Pace board Wednesday is expected to approve construction of several Park 'n Ride lots. Wilmot said they are expected to be ready when the full extent of the I-90 reconstruction gets underway in 2016.
