Ozzie's Mysterious Tweets Explained
By Connor McKnight-
CHICAGO (CBS) White Sox Manager Ozzie Guillen took to Twitter to air his feelings starting late Tuesday night with a tweet that warned, "Iam in very very bad mood stay away from me the most you can."
As Wednesday afternoon progressed, Tweets stating, "No matter how hard e is yes keep going and fighting to the end," and "The best of my life is not hear yet will coming iam a warrior whit a lot hard and marbles."
Speculation was that Ozzie, once again, was disappointed that the White Sox did not select his youngest son, Ozney Guillen, in the MLB Draft. Ozzie's middle son, Oney, made similar allegations after the team's first round pick, Keenyn Walker. "Shocker white sox pick another good athlete black kid. How about picking a good baseball player," Oney's Twitter read.
Prior to Wednesday's game against he Mariners, Ozzie Guillen addressed the Tweets and rumor around his online share-fest. "I have a life besides this life," Ozzie said. "My life is not in baseball. I got kids. I got family. I got a family in Venezuela. I got family being sick. I got family in struggle. I got family who needs money. That's what my tweets [were] about. My tweets [were] nothing about baseball. Nothing."
Ozzie was asked whether he was disappointed his son, Ozney, wasn't drafted by any major league team. "I guess sometimes you think your son is better than what he is," Ozzie said. "My son is fine. He's got money, he's got a college education."
It's not the first time that the MLB Draft has generated rumor of discord between the Guillen family and the White Sox organization. The 2010 MLB Draft led to similar storm on Twitter and stories that White Sox GM Kenny Williams and Ozzie Guillen nearly came to blows over the snub of Ozney.
This year, Ozzie clarified his ambiguous Tweets as being familial, but somewhat less connected. "The problem is. I got people in Venezuela that are really sick," Ozzie said. "Very, very sick. I was frustrated. We're here working, and we not have a chance to see him."
"They can draft whoever they want," Ozzie said about the White Sox. "I don't expect the Sox to draft my kid just because he's my kid."
Afterward Ozzie spoke to the media, Williams addressed them as well. "We can only make the best scouting decisions that we can," Williams said. "You're obviously going to get another look--you know, more looks--if there's a relationship of some sort but, I don't require them to take anyone. It's just not the way it's supposed to work."
The way Williams put it, he's not worried about the "peripheral" stuff around the team and said all this rumor was just a "gnat on my ass."
