Ozzie Guillen's Son Goes Undrafted
CHICAGO (CBS) When the White Sox drafted Ozzie Guillen's son, Ozney, in the 22nd round last year, the Guillen family expressed disappointment that he wasn't selected by the organization earlier in the draft.
It will be interesting what the family will say now that Ozney wasn't drafted at all by the White Sox -- or any other organization -- this year.
"It's not a happy day for us, but in the meanwhile, we got to go through it and move on," Ozzie Guillen said last year after the White Sox selected Ozney in the 22nd round. "I think the 22nd round in high school doesn't mean anything. I think the White Sox did what I told them. I don't need any favors or he doesn't need any favors. In the meanwhile, it's kind of hard. His expectations, not mine, were a little higher. He thought he was a little better player than what other people think."
Ozney never signed with the White Sox and instead went to Miami Dade Junior College where he batted .347 with 33 RBI in 44 games this season, according to the team's web site.
This year those "other people" thought Ozney wasn't worthy of being drafted at all.
Meanwhile, Jackson Laumann, the son of White Sox Scouting Director Doug Laumann, was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 31st round Wednesday.
