Overnight Shootings Leave 1 Dead, 6 Wounded
CHICAGO (CBS) -- One man was killed, and six more were injured, in shootings around Chicago overnight.
The deadly incident happened at 7:55 p.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of South Independence Boulevard, in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. Dominique Green, 23, was found on the sidewalk, with multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said.
The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he later died.
Police say the shooting may be gang-related.
At 9:10 p.m., a man was shot in the back in the West Englewood neighborhood. The victim, who was in his 20s, was in the 1900 block of West 66th Street when he heard shots and felt pain in his back.
The victim ran away and later called police. He was reported in stable condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Just after midnight in the Gage Park neighborhood, two men were shot and wounded.
The victims, ages 23 and 26, were sitting on the porch of a home in the 5200 block of South Homan Avenue just after midnight Thursday morning, when the two suspects walked up and one of them opened fire, police said.
The victims were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where they were both reported in stable condition.
No one was in custody in connection with the shooting as of later Thursday morning.
In a later incident, a man was shot in the leg when two gunmen walked up in the 10900 block of South Loomis Street, in the Morgan Park neighborhood, around 11:50 p.m.
The man made it to his home, and was taken by a family member to MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island, where he was listed in stable condition, police said.
At 1:15 a.m., a man was shot and wounded as he tried to walk away from an argument along Ashland Avenue the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood.
The 19-year-old victim was in a heated quarrel with someone in the 7600 block of South Ashland Avenue, when he decided to disengage and walk to his car. But the other man pulled out a gun and shot him in the arm, police said.
The victim also suffered a graze wound to the neck. He was reported in stable condition after driving himself to Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Cater Center in Evergreen Park.
At 2:15 a.m., a man was shot in the arm by his drinking companion in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. The 41-year-old victim was shot and wounded when his drinking buddy pulled a out a gun and fired for reasons unexplained in the 5100 block of South Hermitage Avenue, police said.
The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in critical condition.
