Brown Line Kimball Station To Be Shut Down For 9 Days
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Another nine-day closure is just ahead on the Brown Line, but this time it's at the outer end of the line.
CTA will shut down the Brown Line's Kimball terminal beginning at 2 a.m. Saturday, July 13.
Outer End Of Brown Line To Be Shut Down For 9 Days
Spokesman Brian Steele said the CTA intends to rip out and replace the last 700 feet of track and switches leading into into the terminal, which he said are 50 years old and worn out.
"The amount of track work that we have to do is limited to the actual terminal at Kimball," he said. "They are the tracks where trains are staged, turn around and where they're coupled and (uncoupled). So we have a lot of track work in that area, and signal work."
The temporary terminal will be the next station up the line, at Kedzie, just south of Lawrence. Buses that normally serve Kimball terminal will be rerouted to Kedzie as well.
The work is expected to be finished July 22nd.
