Oswego Man Killed In Rollover Crash
YORKVILLE, Ill. (STMW) -- An Oswego man was killed in a single-vehicle crash near Route 126 and Identa Road in unincorporated Kendall County near Yorkville early Friday morning — the fourth fatal crash on Route 126 in recent months.
According to Yorkville police, Marco Reyes, 24, of Litchfield Way, Oswego, was driving east on Route 126 at about at 1:10 a.m. Friday.
As he came to the curve near Identa Road, he swerved off the road, overcorrected and crossed to the other side of the road, police said.
Reyes hit a culvert on the north side of the road. His 2005 Chevy Equinox became airborne and rolled at least once, police said. Reyes, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle, police said. The Equinox landed on its roof.
While police are still investigating, they said alcohol may have contributed to the crash.
This is the fourth fatal crash on Route 126 this summer. On Monday, a Yorkville man was killed when the vehicle he was driving veered into the path of an oncoming truck on Route 126 near County Line Road just before 6 a.m.
Three teenagers died in a June 4 crash on Route 126 at Schlapp Road in Kendall County. State Police said the truck was heading east on Route 126 when the teens' vehicle edged out in front of it.
On July 14, a Minooka man died after his motorcycle was hit by a car involved in a crash on Route 126 east of County Line Road. State Police said a Dodge Durango hit a car that was stopped and waiting to turn left. The collision pushed the car into the eastbound lane and into the motorcycle. The driver of the Durango, Andrew Henderson, 24, of Palos Park, was charged with felony aggravated driving under the influence.
Earlier this week, Plainfield Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton said he does not believe Route 126 is a particularly dangerous stretch of road.
"Everything's really visible there. People just aren't paying attention," he said.
