Orr Performs Year's First Wedding

CHICAGO (WBBM) -- In another first this year, Cook County Clerk David Orr performed the first marriage this morning.
WBBM's Mary Frances Bragiel reports, that after 12 years after meeting--and sharing the same last name-- Miguel and Jacqueline Cruz are now husband and wife.
Orr has been doing this since 1991 and says he looks forward to the first marriage of the New Year.

"Well, this is fun," said Orr. More fun than some of his other duties, he said, such as setting the tax rates for 1,400 taxing bodies in the county.
The Cruzes, who have two children, say, they're thrilled to finally be a married couple.
"We just feel blessed to be able to to this," said Miguel Cruz. "Living in sin is not what we are supposed to do."
The couple tried to become husband and wife on Dec. 31, but were forced to wait until the New Year because the office was closed. It was only after another couple backed out that they found themselves in Orr's office this morning as the first to say "I do."
The couple also received a weekend getaway for two at the Palmer House, a $50 gift certificate to the Lettuce Entertain You restaurant Frankie Scallopini, and two tickets to a performance of "God of Carnage," courtesy of the Goodman Theatre.
This was the 21st year that Orr has married the first couple in line for a license.
