Orland Park, Oak Forest Compete For $100K For Dog Park
(CBS) -- A $100,000 prize has pitted two south suburbs against each other over a new dog park.
It's a friendly competition, but one that has Oak Forest and Orland Park appealing to many of the same neighbors for votes in the "Bark For Your Park" contest.
Orland Park finished in seventh place last year, so Assistant Parks Director Lori Padour says they're pushing public awareness, and are reaching out to residents in nearby Tinley Park, Mokena and Orland Hills.
Oak Forest Ald. Laura Clemons says they're getting support from those same communities as well.
Both agree if either suburb wins, it will be good for local dogs.

Clemons says they've made about $12,000 through fundraisers, and are working with the Cook County Forest Preserve District to secure land for a dog park in Oak Forest.
Orland Park has already cleared some land and planted grass in its Centennial Park, according to Padour.
Both communities' plans include separate space for large dogs and small dogs, agility equipment, fencing, and water fountains.
Padour says if the village wins the $100,000 grand prize, they could finish their park sooner, and avoid charging a membership fee.
Oak Forest is currently ranked seventh out of 15 communities. Orland Park is in third place.
