Original Goose Island Brew Pub Closing
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The original Goose Island brewery on North Clybourn will be closing after the owners were unable to reach a new deal on their lease.
On its website, CRM Properties in Deerfield, which owns the location, has already listed the 12,000 square foot space as available for a new tenant. Goose Island will be leaving the location in early 2014.
CRM said Goose Island was seeking a 30 percent rent reduction along with improvements to the property.
"We appreciate Goose Island Brewery as a longstanding tenant and would like to have seen it stay on, but its request brings the proposed transaction far below that of market value," CRM senior vice president Chris Siavelis said.
Earlier this year, the brewery, which opened the Lincoln Park location in 1988, celebrated its 25th anniversary.
The closure does not affect the other Goose Island location in Wrigleyville and Fulton Street.
Goose Island was sold to Anheuser-Busch InBev N.V. in 2011, but the brew pubs were reportedly not part of the deal.
Back in 2008, a lease renewal negotiation almost led to the end of Goose Island at the Lincoln Park location.
Goose Island Founder John Hall still hopes the two sides can come to an agreement. CRM says it is offering to help the brewery find a new location.
