Oregon State Rolls Past DePaul 90-59
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — Oregon State guard Malcolm Duvivier said the Beavers have had a major shift this season under new coach Wayne Tinkle.
"We're being a nightmare for (opponents) on defense. I just think our mindset has changed," Duvivier said.
He had 11 points and four steals as Oregon State dominated DePaul 90-59 on Thursday night.
Duvivier was one of four Beavers in double figures. Victor Robbins scored a career-high 27 points, Olaf Schaftenaar added a career-high 21 points, and Gary Payton II had 15 points and five steals for Oregon State (8-2).
Jamee Crockett had 14 points for the Blue Demons (6-4).
Schaftenaar scored 11 of the Beavers' first 13 points to give Oregon State a 13-6 lead at the 15:47 mark.
"I just tried to be as aggressive as I could be. It worked out," Schaftenaar said.
"It was nice seeing him have success both inside and out," Tinkle added.
A Robbins 3-pointer stretched the margin to 42-21 with 3:23 remaining in the half.
The Beavers led 48-28 at the break, and had outrebounded the Blue Demons 22-11 at that point, scoring 11 second-chance points.
Oregon State led by as many as 34 in the second half.
Robbins reached a career high in points for the second time in as many games. He had 22 points in a win versus Grambling State on Monday.
Myke Henry, who came in leading the Blue Demons in scoring at 17 points per game, was held to nine.
DePaul had been averaging 49.2 percent shooting, but Oregon State's defense harassed the Blue Demons into a 34 percent night, the Blue Demons' worst shooting performance this season.
"Statistically, they're a really good defensive team," said DePaul coach Oliver Purnell. "But I thought we were impatient offensively. I didn't think our shot selection was very good at all. We didn't attack the zone very well."
Purnell said he hopes his team improves to the point where it can have a chance to win the Big East championship.
Tinkle is in his first year coaching the Beavers after leading Montana to the NCAA tournament three times. He inherited an Oregon State squad that lost most of its key players and is without a senior. Tinkle added five walk-ons to the roster after holding an open tryout in October.
One of those walk-ons, Tanner Sanders, a scout team player for the Beavers football team, had eight points and four rebounds in 18 minutes on Thursday.

DePaul: The Blue Demons had won the two previous meetings between the schools, including a 93-81 victory last December in Chicago. . The Blue Demons are now 1-1 against the Pac-12 this season, having defeated Stanford.
Oregon State: The Beavers now have a five-game winning streak, their longest in two years. . The Beavers have won all seven of their home games this season at Gill Coliseum. ... Gary Payton II is the son of Gary Payton, a former All-American for the Beavers who was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013. He entered Thursday's game leading Oregon State at 13.4 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.
CHICAGO PRIDE
Four of the Blue Demons' starters are from Chicago, where DePaul is located. The squad includes nine players from the Chicago area.
LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON
Payton notched the Beavers' second triple-double in school history on Monday. His father had the other in 1988. Oregon State believes they are the only father-son triple-double combo in college history.
