Ontario Street To Be Reduced To 2 Lanes In River North
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Motorists trying to get to the Kennedy Expressway from the Magnificent Mile will face some frustration this month, as a resurfacing project narrows Ontario Street to two lanes.
The Chicago Department of Transportation announced Friday that crews will be resurfacing Ontario Street from State Street west to Orleans Street in the River North neighborhood.
The project begins on Tuesday of next week, and will last for the rest of the month. All work will occur between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., except asphalt work , which will be conducted between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Two lanes of the four-lane street will be closed throughout the project.
The project is likely to cause serious traffic headaches, given that Ontario Street is the main route from Michigan Avenue and Streeterville to the Ohio Street feeder ramp onto the Kennedy Expressway.
The project involves curb and sidewalk patching; removing old asphalt; installing a base asphalt layer; adjusting utility structures; installing concrete bus pads; installing the top asphalt layer and pavement markings.
Parking restrictions will also be in place throughout the work zone. CDOT says drivers should check posted signs for restrictions.
