Onetime Sex Offender Accused Of Trespassing At College To Shower
NAPERVILLE, Ill. (CBS) -- A onetime youth coordinator who was charged with sex crimes nearly 30 years ago now stands accused of trespassing at North Central College in Naperville and using the showers.
Michael Dichtl, 60, is free on bond and awaiting trial on a misdemeanor charge of criminal trespass to a building, according to Naperville police and DuPage County Circuit Court records.
Dichtl has a history of serious sex crime charges involving teenage girls, although he was acquitted of the most serious ones. The charges date from 1984, when he was working as Lisle Township's youth coordinator.
This time, Naperville police said Dichtl was arrested just before11 p.m. at the Merner Field House at North Central College, at 450 S. Brainard St. in Naperville. A staff member said Dicthl had been going without permission to facility, which is used by North Central's Cardinal sports teams and gym equipment, and using the showers.
Dicthl gave an address in Naperville, but he told police he was homeless.
Dichtl in October 1984 was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of criminal sexual abuse, stemming from an alleged incident earlier that summer at Naperville's Centennial Beach involving a 14-year-old girl. A judge in January 1985 declared him not guilty in that case.
But Dichtl in February 1987 was sentenced to a year of probation and ordered to undergo counseling, after being convicted of two misdemeanor counts of contributing to the sexual delinquency of a child. Those crimes occurred in May 1984, when Dichtl was 31 and his victim was 16.
The girl told police she and Dichtl would meet in a home on Ellsworth Street that was owned by one of Dichtl's relatives. Dichtl's attorney, prior to his sentencing, argued his client did not realize he was committing a crime by having physical contact with the girl.
Dichtl is scheduled to appear Oct. 23 in court to answer the trespassing charge.
