Woman Arrested After Fatal Brighton Park Crash

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A woman was arrested after a two-car crash early Sunday that killed a 28-year-old man in the Southwest Side Brighton Park neighborhood.
Police said the wreck happened in the 4400 block of South Archer Avenue about 2 a.m. when the woman, driving a Chevy Malibu northbound on Archer, tried to make a left turn at South Sawyer Avenue--but failed to yield to a Nissan Maxima headed Southbound on Archer. The two cars collided, seriously injuring people in both vehicles.
The driver of the Nissan, 28-year-old Ahmed M. Kishta, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and pronounced dead at 2:48 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
An autopsy found Kishta died of multiple injuries from a motor vehicle collision and his death was ruled an accident. Two of Kishta's passengers were injured and hospitalized in critical condition--a male taken to Mount Sinai and a female taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak lawn, said Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva.
The driver of the Malibu was taken in unknown condition to Mount Sinai Hospital. Police later announced she was in custody and that charges against her were pending. A male in the car with the woman during the crash was taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Roccasalva said.
Police said name and age of the woman arrested were being withheld Sunday evening until charges were filed.
