One Dead, Five Hurt In Car Crash
CHICAGO (CBS) -- One person was killed and five others suffered "non life-threatening" injuries in a four-car auto accident on the Southwest Side early Monday, police said.
The crash occurred in the 4200 block of South Cicero Avenue about 12:45 a.m., police said.
A vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed struck a pedestrian before colliding with three other vehicles, police said.
The driver of one of the vehicles that was struck by the speeding car died at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to police. Five others were taken to area hospitals with non life-threatening injuries, said police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office confirmed the fatality Monday morning but could not immediately provide information about the driver's age or gender.
The wounded were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, Rush University Medical Center and Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.
The driver of the speeding vehicle is in police custody at Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, police said.
