Man Dead After Vehicle Crashes Through Wall Of Hegewisch Home
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was killed when an SUV crashed through the brick wall of a home in the Hegewisch neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.
Chicago police confirmed the fatality, after an SUV crashed all the way through the side wall of a home in the 12800 block of South Muskegon Avenue.
The homeowner, firefighter Robert Opiola, was lying on his couch when the vehicle came through the wall. He rushed to the driver's aid, but found the driver dead inside the vehicle.
"I tried to assist the driver, I pulled him out and put him on the lawn and started helping him out as much as I could," said Opiola. "Most importantly, before anything, I would just like to keep the family of this gentleman in my thoughts and prayers and the house can be repaired."
The SUV was driven by 34-year-old Walid Haddad, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner. An official source says Haddad suffered from a seizure disorder. The family is not confirming that.
"He was very generous, took care of his family, involved with the church, loved music, wanted to be a DJ, just an all-around good kid," said Samantha Webb, Hadad's cousin.
The SUV left tire marks on the lawns of at least five other homes before crashing into the wall.
