Police: Man Killed When Car Drives Into Semi On South Side
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man died after the car he was driving struck the back of a semi truck in the South Side Washington Park neighborhood early Saturday, police said.
The crash happened about 3:25 a.m. at South State and West 59th streets, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
Both the semi and an Oldsmobile Cutlass were northbound on State Street when the semi slowed down to turn left onto 59th Street, police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said. The Cutlass struck the rear of the semi.
The 23-year-old driver of the Oldsmobile was taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he later was pronounced dead, Estrada said.
The CTA's No. 29 State Street buses were temporarily rerouted around the crash Saturday morning.
No citations have been issued in relation to the accident, Estrada said.
