Olympian Tegenkamp To Join Teammate Ritzenhein In Chicago Marathon
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Olympian Matt Tegenkamp will run his first marathon this October, when he runs in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon alongside Team USA teammate Dathan Ritzenhein.
"I am very excited that all the stars aligned this year to make the Bank of America Chicago Marathon my debut at the distance," said Tegenkamp, a native of Kansas City, Mo. "There are a lot of great fall marathon options, but for my first I wanted to stay true to my Midwest roots."
Tegenkamp, who graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 2005, has represented Team USA at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics, and the IAAF World Track & Field Championships in 2007, 2009, and 2011.
Though he holds the U.S. record for the two-mile, and is one of only six Americans to break the 13-minute barrier in he 5,000 meter, he has yet to run a marathon.
He'll join Team USA Olympic teammate Dathan Ritzenhein in running the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Oct. 13.
