Olsen Looking Forward To 'Security' With Panthers
CHICAGO (CBS) -- As Greg Olsen woke up this morning to the realization that he is no longer a Chicago Bear, the fifth-year tight end is looking forward to a "little stability and security" with his new team.
As it re-tools its receiving corps, the Bears on Thursday traded Olsen to the Carolina Panthers, reportedly for a third-round draft pick. Olsen, who was in the final year of his deal with the Bears, will get a contract extension with his new team.
"It's kind of bittersweet," Olsen said in an interview with Lisa Dent and Ramblin' Ray on US 99 on Friday. "It's never easy moving. It's going to be a good opportunity for my career to have a little stability and security" with a new contract.
Olsen said he was excited to be reunited with Panthers' offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Rob Chudzinski, who recruited Olsen at the University of Miami.
"I think it's going to be a great fit for me," Olsen said.
While Olsen said he will miss Chicago, he said NFL players always are prepared for a change of scenery.
"It's part of the business," he said. "It is what it is. It was what was best of all parties involved."
