Older Brother Charged In Lockport Township Man's Shooting Death
LOCKPORT TOWNSHIP, Ill. (STMW) -- An argument between brothers left one dead and the other facing murder charges early Saturday in unincorporated Will County near Lockport.
Will County sheriff's police were called about 12:15 a.m. to 329 W. Oak St. and found George Hinton, 55, lying on the edge of a bed in the basement. According to reports, Hinton had suffered a single gunshot wound to his chest and was unable to be revived by paramedics.
Witnesses in the house reported hearing an argument between George and his older brother, Larry Hinton, 58.
"No shot was heard, but Larry Hinton came upstairs and had someone call an ambulance because 'George had shot himself,' " police said.
Deputies reportedly recovered a rifle from the basement and said it appears "unlikely" George Hinton's wound was self-inflicted. The Will County coroner's office reported the death as a homicide Saturday.
Larry Hinton was taken into custody for questioning and later booked into the county jail around 7:15 a.m. on a charge of murder.
Police said both brothers lived in the basement of the residence and "frequently got into fights."
