Ohio Man Gets 15 Years For DUI Crash That Killed Two
CHICAGO (CBS) -- An Ohio man--who had a blood-alcohol level of .148 when his car slammed into another car, killing two South Side men in 2009--was sentenced to 15 years in prison Thursday.
David Barbour, 29, was charged with two counts of reckless homicide and two counts of aggravated DUI for the Oct. 3, 2009, crash at 62nd and Ashland that killed 27-year-old William Taylor and 28-year-old Lawrence Peterson.
On Thursday, Barbour pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI and was sentenced to 15 years in prison by Judge Carol Howard, Cook County State's Attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said.
After drinking a bottle of wine and three vodka martinis, Barbour struck a car at 62nd and Ashland on Oct. 3, 2009, according to prosecutor Jodi Peterson.
A witness saw Barbour get out of his car and begin yelling at the other motorist before he got back in his vehicle and started driving at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic, Peterson said.
Barbour blew a red light at Ashland and 59th, and slammed into a car driven by Taylor, authorities said.
Taylor and Peterson, his passenger, were pronounced dead on arrival at Holy Cross Hospital, Peterson said at Barbour's bond hearing in 2009.
Barbour allegedly left a bar before the accident, and was driven to his car at 82nd and Ashland. He was offered a ride to his destination twice, but refused, Peterson said.
