Ohio Man Admits Killing Wife In 911 Call
CHICAGO (CBS) -- An Ohio man, who might have ties to Chicago, has been charged with murder after he calmly admitted to killing his wife in a 911 call.
Jeffrey Hawkins, 57, was ordered held on $3 million bail Tuesday. He was arrested minutes after allegedly killing his wife at their home in Colerain, Ohio, on Monday.
Police said Hawkins called 911 on Monday after shooting his wife, Joann. He allegedly told police his wife had cleaned out their bank account.
"I just shot and killed my wife," the man said in a 911 call around 11 a.m. Monday.
The 911 dispatcher asked the man if he still had the gun.
"It's on the sink. I'm not a threat to anybody. I'm a former police officer," he said.

The dispatcher also asked the man where he shot his wife.
"I don't know. I don't know. It's multiple times," he said.
Police found Joann Hawkins dead at the home when they arrived.
During the call, Hawkins admitted killing his wife because she had cleaned out their bank account on his birthday last weekend, and told him if he had any questions he should talk to her lawyer.
On social media, Hawkins identified himself as a private security consultant who was trained at the Chicago Police Academy.
WKRC-TV, the CBS affiliate in Cincinnati, reported Hawkins is a former Chicago police officer, but a Chicago Police Department spokesperson could not immediately confirm that information.
During his arraignment, prosecutors said Hawkins slashed his wife's tires a few days before the shooting, and she had to barricade herself away from him. They also said she planned to use the money from their bank account to escape Hawkins.
A family spokesperson told the judge Hawkins had made threats to relatives in the past. The victim's son told the court the family believes Hawkins had mentally abused her for years.
