Ofman: A-Rod & The Pink Elephant

By George Ofman-

(CBS) The pink elephant is in the room.

I believe his name is Alex Rodriguez aka: A-Rod.

He's the guy who used the term to decry PEDs in "our game." I've heard of the elephant in the room. Who hasn't? I've heard of great white elephants and elephants that never forget.

I've heard of the 800 pound gorilla in the room and certainly of Pink Floyd. And who hasn't heard a fish story? I've heard lots of fish stories, but there's nothing fishy about this.

But never, ever had I heard of a pink elephant. I had to Google it. A pink elephant is a 1970s film in the "Pink Panther" series. There is also "seeing pink elephants" which is a euphemism for drunken hallucinations caused by alcoholic hallucinations. Now we're getting somewhere. Maybe A-Rod was ahead of the game.

He was. Actually, he was in a different game.

Yes, the pink elephant is Alex Rodriguez. He's the one who admitted to taking steroids while with the Texas Rangers for a three year period starting in 2001. "I felt I had I had the weight of the world on me" he said. "Back then baseball was a different culture. It was very loose and I was young and stupid.

And a cheater. And my guess; still is.

Forget about young and stupid. You and I were young and stupid but not A-Rod. He was gifted and pampered, admired and adored. And he became rich, very rich. He became richer beyond our young and stupid dreams.

And he cheated like Ryan Braun and Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa and Rafael Palmeiro, etc.

There's no doubt in my mind he's cheated again.

Anyone who buys this act ought to be sentenced to an evening with Jose Canseco. A-Rod probably spent several with him.

This is about money, ego and a tainted home run record. But mostly it's about money. It's money the young and stupid will never see but A-Rod already has accumulated and has more coming to him. That's what this is all about. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, screw you.

But A-Rod doesn't care. He's about A-Rod whom I'm sure wants to give his side of the story. It's probably one of those fish stories.

I'd love to hear it so long as the pink elephant is in the room.
