Officials Investigate Police-Involved Shooting
CHICAGO (STMW) - Police are seeking a suspect who raised a gun at off-duty police officers Saturday in the South Side Englewood neighborhood after the officers caught him shooting at a group of people.
The shooting happened about 3:15 p.m. in the 5900 block of South Morgan Street when the off-duty officers saw the man shooting at a separate group of people standing on the corner, police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien said.
After the officers got out of their car and ordered him to drop the gun, the suspect initially began to flee but turned back, raised his gun and pointed it at the officers, O'Brien said.
The officers then fired at the suspect, who was not hit by the gunfire and ran away, O'Brien said. A weapon was recovered at the scene, but the suspect is not in custody Saturday evening.
Shots were not fired at the officers during the incident, as previously reported.
Wentworth Area detectives at the Independent Police Review Authority, which investigates all police-involved shootings, are investigating.
