Officers Rescue Man And His Dog From Lake
CHICAGO (STMW) - Police officers from the North Side Town Hall District rescued a man and his dog from Lake Michigan Saturday afternoon.
About 1 p.m. the man was walking his dog near the lake at Belmont Avenue when for an unknown reason the dog jumped into the lake, police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said. The dog could not get out of the water so his owner, a 28-year-old man, jumped in after him.
The man and his dog then both had trouble getting back to shore and police and fire crews were called. Three officers from the Town Hall District -- a lieutenant, a sergeant and an officer -- got to the scene and called the police Marine Unit and the Coast Guard, but worried that the man and the dog would not be able to keep from going under, they jumped in after them, Perez said.
The officers brought the man and the dog safely to shore, Perez said. The man was taken in good condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in good condition, with minor hypothermia, Perez said. The dog was handed over to the man's girlfriend.
