(CBS) -- A Chicago police officer was recovering at home Tuesday morning, after she was punched, grabbed, then dragged down the street during a traffic stop in the Gresham neighborhood.
CBS 2's Susanna Song reports the officer was treated and released at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and was resting at home. Police said she was banged up, but would be okay.
The 30-year-old officer pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation around 9 p.m. Monday near West 83rd Street and South Kerfoot Avenue.
When she walked up to the driver's side of the vehicle, the female driver punched her in the face, grabbed her protective vest, and drove off.
As the driver sped off, the officer was dragged and thrown from the car.
The driver crashed a short time later, and was arrested by other officers responding to the scene.
Paramedics rushed the officer, a five-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, to Northwestern Memorial, escorted by a dozen police cars.
She was treated and released from the hospital. Police said she was resting at home Tuesday morning.
The driver who attacked the officer was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, and charges were pending against her Monday morning.
