Officer Shot During Robbery In Harvey

HARVEY (CBS) -- A police officer was shot while trying to stop an armed robbery in south suburban Harvey Sunday evening.
Just before 6 p.m., Harvey police responded to a report of a robbery at a business at the intersection of 159th and Wood streets, according to a statement from the city of Harvey.
A single armed suspect -- described as a black male -- opened fire on the officers as soon as they arrived.
One officer, whose gender and age were not immediately disclosed, was shot.
The sustained "non-life-threatening" injuries and was taken to Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey in "stable" condition, according to the statement.
The officer was shot twice in the buttocks and arm. He underwent surgery on Sunday night.
Police have a person of interest in custody.
