Off-Duty Cop's Gun Taken During Armed Robbery
CHICAGO (STMW) -- An off-duty Chicago police officer had his service weapon taken when he was robbed at gunpoint while sitting in his car in the South Side Chatham neighborhood Tuesday night.
The robbery happened about 7:30 p.m., as the off-duty officer sat in his own car near 91st Street and King Drive, police said. Two males approached him, one on either side of the car. As one opened the passenger's side door, the other tapped the window on the driver's side and displayed a gun, according to police.
The man with the gun told his accomplice, "I think he's a cop, check for a gun," police said Wednesday.
The two robbers took the officer's gun, cell phone and wallet, according to police. The officer was not injured.
