Off Duty Cop Shoots Driver Of Stolen Vehicle
CHICAGO (CBS) -- An off-duty Chicago police officer shot and wounded a man who was allegedly fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle on the South Side last night.
Fraternal Order of Police spokesman Pat Camden said a gray SUV tried to make a turn at 37th Street and King Drive at a high rate of speed and lost control, striking a traffic light and a pedestrian.
As the off-duty officer, who was still in uniform, approached the man, the suspect then allegedly accelerated his vehicle backwards towards him.
The officer then fired, hitting the man in the hand.
The suspect, pedestrian and a passenger were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
The officer was not injured.
