Off-Duty Cop Shoots At Car Burglary Suspect In West Lawn
CHICAGO (STMW) -- An off-duty Chicago police officer shot at a man trying to break into a vehicle early Thursday in the West Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
The off-duty officer saw a 21-year-old man attempting to break into a vehicle at West 65th Street and South Pulaski Road about 12:15 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
The officer confronted the man, who proceeded to point a weapon at the officer, Greer said. The officer then fired at the suspect but did not hit him, Greer said.
The man fled the scene in his own vehicle and went to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was treated for injuries caused by broken glass before being taken into police custody, Greer said.
Charges against him are pending, Greer said.
