Cops Nab Gold Coast Hit-And-Run Driver
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 28-year-old man behind the wheel of a Jeep Cherokee is facing possible DUI charges after he sideswiped a car in front of Water Tower Place Sunday morning and left the scene.
At 8:27 a.m. a 48-year-old female motorist was waiting at a light at 800 N. Michigan Ave. when the Cherokee sideswiped her and fled the scene, according to police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.
Two on-duty Chicago Police SWAT officers who were in an SUV saw the wreck and gave chase. The officers apprehended the man at 871 N. Rush St. and he was taken into custody. He is being processed at the Near North District police station and may be charged with DUI and several traffic citations, Perez said.
No one was hurt but the vehicle the woman was driving became disabled and had to be towed, the officer said.
